Jose Luis Crespo, Plug Power’s VP Global Sales, has been named to the 2018 Food Logistics’ Champions:Rock Stars of the Supply Chain award for leading the charge in building the global market for hydrogen fuel cells. The award recognizes influential individuals in the food logistics industry whose achievements, hard work, and vision have shaped and attained milestones in safety, efficiency, productivity and innovation through the global food supply chain.
Jose Luis Crespo, in his role as VP Global Sales, has led Plug Power’s efforts to increase operational efficiency and corporate sustainability for several leading food logistics companies in the U.S. and Europe, including Walmart, Amazon, Whole Foods P&G, Carrefour and Asko. Traditionally, food logistics distribution warehouses have used battery-powered forklifts. Plug Power fuel cells are a drop-in replacement for batteries in existing material handling fleets.
Mr. Crespo commented, “It takes a forward-thinking company to change from the status-quo, and embrace a newer technology, even if it promises to be cleaner and more efficient for them. My job is to make hydrogen fuel cells familiar by showing each company how we can fit into their operation and can help them operate at a higher level.”
Plug Power develops and markets its gold standard efficiency and productivity-enhancing hydrogen fuel cell products that are used in food logistics applications, today. The fuel cells are used in forklifts and other material handling equipment and provide the following benefits:
- Consistent, predictable power 24/7 – increasing efficiency and productivity for users
- Full power over a wide range of ambient temperatures, including freezer facilities
- Safe, quick and convenient refueling
- Zero emission performance and low noise signatures
Under the guidance of Jose Luis Crespo, Plug Power has secured extensive multi-site / multi-year programs with both Walmart and Amazon in the U.S. and European supermarket leader Colruyt Group, as well as a number of other important food logistics corporations. This clean, efficient, cost-effective fuel cell power is changing the way these companies do business. The material handling industry currently has more than 20,000 fuel cell forklifts operating. Forklift operators have performed more than 11 million hydrogen fills using Plug Power hydrogen stations.
From early pioneers and entrepreneurs to non-conformist thinkers and executive standouts, this award aims to honor these leaders and their contributions to the industry. Plug Power congratulates Jose Luis Crespo for leading adoption within the forklift fuel cell market. The food logistics industry is realizing that embracing change is good for business.
