The Future City Competition is a hands-on education program for 7th and 8th grade students to learn how to apply math, science, engineering and technology.
The student teams work with their teacher and an engineering mentor to design a city of the future using SimCity™ computer software, building a 3-D model,
writing an essay on an engineering related topic and finally presenting their futuristic city at the competition in January.
The program currently runs in 35 schools and reaches ~400 students. The winner from the Regional Competition advances to the National Competition and competes against 38 regions.
This program promotes engineering through a mentoring – hands-on team approach.
Plug Power has provided the Future City Competition with financial and volunteer support since it was started in the Capital District Region in 2001.
