The Defense Distribution Depot in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania (DDSP) is the largest and most active Department of Defense depot in the United States. From this station, around the clock service to the armed forces is provided, including direct support to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. This depot is part of the Defense Logistic Agency (DLA) network, set up to purchases and manages the distribution of a variety of supplies and services to include fuel, food, clothing, construction supplies, electronics and medical supplies.

 

In this station, 40 fuel cells are also running around the clock, including 22 of Plug Power’s GenDrive units. On February 10, 2009, fuel-cell powered class-1 sit-down counterbalance lift trucks were deployed by the DLA in support of the early market adoption of clean, efficient, reliable fuel cell technology in military and commercial applications.

 

Since commissioning, operators have successfully fueled the fuel cell-powered trucks over 7,000 times using two indoor hydrogen dispensing systems! Using hydrogen as a fuel source, the DDSP is doing its part to help the United States lessen its dependence on foreign oil, as well as reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of its operations. The DDSP joins the thousands of commercial customers using hydrogen as a fuel source every day.
